Our History

TEQ, a subsidiary of ESCO Technologies, is a custom thermoformer located in Huntley, Illinois dedicated to providing high quality thermoformed plastic packaging and products to medical, electronic and commercial markets. ESCO acquired TekPackaging from Schawk Inc. in 1997.

Originally named TekPackaging, the history of TEQ begins with the acquisition of A.E Robinson, a manufacturer of retail package blisters in 1984 by Schawk, Inc. The company was renamed Robinson Industries and a year later moved into a new facility. Robinson was the first Chicago area company to offer a complete package of printed blister cards and thermoformed blisters.

With a goal of entering into new markets, Schawk acquired a California thin gauge thermoformer, Fuzere Inc. in 1991. Fuzere provided innovative, high quality packaging primarily to medical and electronic OEM’s. In 1993, Fuzere Midwest was opened in a new facility that included a cleanroom to service the expanding medical device and electronic industries. The consolidated companies name was changed to TekPackaging in 1994.

Reaffirming its commitment to quality, TEQ achieved certification to the ISO 9000:1994 standard in 1998. Then in 1999, in order to focus on the core competency of quality thermoforming, the printing operation was sold. A new, more effective cleanroom was built in the original building and the Fuzere Midwest building was sold. The move allowed for a streamlining of the process, which resulted in more efficient production and shorter lead times as well as gains in controlling the manufacturing environment.

Entering the new century TEQ acquired new thermoforming technology resulting in further gains in controlling the process, the level of quality and efficiency. This machine also provided the ability to form pre-printed material, placing the company in position to enter new markets with a value added product. The business was consolidated further in 2001 by moving the Stockton, California manufacturing operations to the Midwest facility and establishing a warehouse in Southern CA.

In early 2010, TEQ opened a 2nd facility in Huntley, IL for the manufacture of class II medical devices. This clean room facility is ISO 13485:2003 Registered and is cGMP compliant. The facility in Huntley is now the TEQ headquarters.

In 2016, Plastique was purchased by ESCO Technologies and is now part of the technical packaging division alongside TEQ.

Today, Plastique continues to be regarded as the market leader for the design and manufacture of thermoformed packaging for the cosmetics, toiletries, personal care and pharmaceutical markets. That expertise has been extended to the food and general retail market. And with the opening of the Polish factory, TEQ can now have the opportunity to sell to a wider market place.

Each employee at TEQ shares a strong commitment to serving the needs of our customers and meeting or exceeding expectations. TEQ strives to meet this goal through innovative design; quality tooling, controlled processes, producing and shipping error free, on time every time. By continually improving our business practices and building partnerships with our customers and suppliers, TEQ will attract a strong customer base that will lead to further development and growth.
